Working Mom Tips

1. Google Calendar

If you are in charge of all the planning around birthdays, sport events, and appointments, it can really weigh on your mind and quickly become overwhelming. One of the best organizations tips for working moms is to use Google Calendar.

Create all your events on Google Calendar, then invite the people attending. Example below, if your child has something scheduled, invite whoever is attending the event by email with “add guests”.

That way everyone is informed about monthly plans and it can help alleviate some of the mom mental load.

I also love having a hard copy wall calendar for our household as well. I use this one. It helps us keep track of the day to day agenda with a quick glance.

2. Grayscale After Work

Try to minimize your outside world distractions when you are cozy at home. It can be so tempting after a long work day to zone out on your phone, scroll social media or check emails. But that is often the time our kids need us the most. They are looking for a parent who is present and engaged to share their evening with.

Enjoy those moments of togetherness by being fully present. One simple way to do this is to take away your phone distraction by setting it to grayscale mode. When your phone is in this mode, the colors are muted and it is easier to resist the doom scroll.

Since I started using grayscale in the evenings, it has cut my own screen time by so much. You will be so happy with the amount of extra time you gain! Here is how to try it out โ†“.

How to Turn Your Phone to Grayscale

IPhone: go to settingsโ†’accessibilityโ†’display & text sizeโ†’color filtersโ†’turn onโ†’grayscale

3. Sunday Reset

Use your Sunday as a reset day to prepare yourself for the week. Try to keep a little time free at the end of the weekend so you can do some basic week prep.

You can do your weekly grocery shopping, meal plan, have an everything shower, clean your sheets, blow out your hair, do your nails or even pick out outfits.

When you organize and care for yourself on Sunday, you prepare yourself for Monday. This sets you up for having a successful week with less stress. Try it this Sunday and see what a difference it can make!

4. Automate What You Can

In today’s world, many things can be automated to take some work off your plate. For example, I have automatic shipping subscriptions for my diapers, wipes, and diaper genie bags on Amazon. It leaves me well stocked and not scrambling at the last minute for a nonexistent diaper.

Work within your budget to see what you can automate to take a little bit off your daily chores. Things you can automate: groceries (delivery or pickup), bill payments, birthday and appointment reminders in your phone, and so many more!

5. Keep Dinners Inspirational

Do you ever work a long day only to come home to have to make the worst meal? Its easy to get into a routine of uninspired meals that bring no joy. You do your regular grocery shop, then end up with a bunch of things that don’t really go together to make anything good.

This is one of my top working mom tips and that is to get inspired for making meals. Eating is such an important part of family life, make an effort to pour love into your food. You don’t have to be the world’s best cook, you just need to try.

Going onto Pinterest, Instagram, or buying a new cookbook (this is my current fav), to get excited about making something for your family is a total game-changer.

Also, try to get your kids involved in the meal prep in any way you can. For my toddler, we use this kids tower to have him help at the counter. I give him spatulas and other things to keep him involved in the making of the meal.

Cooking from home can also save you a lot of money. Tip: look for recipes with a simple list of in season ingredients. Avoid recipes with long lists of things you don’t have on hand.

6. Hydration Over Caffeine

One of the easiest habits to get into as a mom is drinking too much caffeine. From a few too many sleepless nights to jam packed schedules, a lot of pick me up caffeine drinks along the way can really overload the system. It can leave you feeling overly anxious and jittery.

Instead, set your intention to drink more water throughout the day. Staying hydrated can benefit you as mom in so many ways from regulating the nervous system, natural energy, and can even help with focus.

Carrying a reusable water bottle and programming a few daily phone reminders to drink water can make a big difference. Personally, I drink one coffee in the morning and then switch to caffeine free herbal tea for that warm beverage satisfaction without the caffeine crash.

This is my favorite spill proof water bottle I carry everywhere to stay hydrated. When you have water insight, its in mind!

7. To Do Note

Okay this is a seriously great working mom tip if you are a task oriented mom or want to become one. I keep a running To Do Note in my phone. If I can’t complete the task when I see it needs to be done right then and there, I add it to my To Do Note.

8. Household Chores List

One of the most helpful things to have as a working mom is a household chores list. It takes the guess work out of where to start cleaning in your home. Check out my free Household Chores List on this blog post. It shows you a schedule of weekly, monthly, yearly household chores, as well as a blank template to create your own.

You will spend so much less time cleaning and more time enjoying your days with your family.

9. Slow it Down

Everyday is not going to be perfect, but as working moms we need to slow down and enjoy motherhood. Indulge in simple pleasures that make you feel like yourself. Whether its a cup of tea and good book, painting with some watercolors, or going for a nature walk.

Taking the time to step out of the fast paced work world and into simple family life can bring so much joy and happiness.

Practicing a few moments of slowness in your day, can reset your mind. I love using this journal to help me reset my mind and practice more daily gratitude.

A Note From One Working Mom to Another

Being a mom and working is one of the most difficult balances. Remember that it doesn’t have to be perfect everyday. Its the showing up and the trying that counts.

Don’t compare yourself to others online or around you. Don’t worry about the outside noise. You can only compare yourself to yesterday. You are capable. You have got this!
