Having kids is the best thing ever, but at the same time, sometimes the endless cleaning, organizing, and preparing can be overwhelming. As a mom myself, I have come up with some genius mom hacks to make life easier. In fact, I am giving you the top life hacks for moms I swear by!

As a result, you are going to see how mom life becomes a lot more manageable with these easy, everyday mom hacks. From cleaning hacks to toy storage, this list has it all.

This post is all about mom hacks that every mom should know.

1. Donation Bin

Designate a storage bin or drawer for donations. This can be for clothes, toys, electronics, or anything else that no longer belongs in your home. Instead of constantly seeing stuff you want to organize and get rid of, fill up your bin slowly over time. Then, when it’s time to donate, drop off at your local donation bin or center.

2. Car Caddy

Whatever phase of motherhood you are in, a car caddy is one of the most game-changing mom life hacks. Keep one in your trunk or back seat, stocked with extra clothes, packaged snacks, water bottles, and wipes. For instance, if you always forget soccer socks, diapers, pencils, and hair ties, keep them in the caddy. This is so handy! No more running back home when you already are stretched for time!

3. Leaving List

Isn’t it the worst when you go somewhere and realize you forgot something? Without a doubt, one of my favorite mom hacks is my leaving lists. I write this in my notes app, and I have a checklist of everything needed for leaving the house for different outings. For example, one for school, one for work, one for overnights at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. These lists keep me organized and well-prepared, which helps to reduce the mental load. Moreover, you can also share the lists with your partner!

You can create a folder in your notes app and call it “Leaving Lists”. Then add each leaving list. I find it helpful to add the checkmark box to keep track as you pack up! Check out mine for going to Grandma and Grandpa’s house.

4. Double Batch

Without a doubt, one of the daily questions that can feel overwhelming is what is for dinner! Fortunately, one of the mom hacks that saves some time in the kitchen is double-batching. Whatever can be “double batched,” do it. For example, if you are making chilli, make double, freeze half. In addition, meals like soups, stews, and slow-cooker meals can easily be frozen. Likewise, you can make extra waffles and pancakes, freeze them to reheat.

For treats, you can double-batch items like muffins or cookie dough. Personally, I love to make mini muffins and freeze half. Similarly, for cookie dough, I store half the dough pre-shaped in an airtight ziplock in the freezer. Then, bring cookie dough to room temperature when ready to bake! As a result, this mom hack will have your kitchen less messy and things on hand to always eat.

5. No Heat Curls

Okay, I totally doubted these years ago, but now, no-heat curls are a total game-changer for my morning routine. As moms, we are short on time, and getting ready in the morning can feel like a race. Still, one way I love to feel put together and feeling good is by having my hair done. No-heat curls are a total mom hack for that fresh blowout look without all the time. I’ve tried the rods, socks, bands, and more. Ultimately, my ride-or-die no-heat curls are with a regular pair of long socks. They take less than five minutes to put in and are actually comfortable to sleep in.

6. Protein Purse

If you find yourself starving when you are running errands, picking up the kids, whichever, then I suggest having some form of protein in your purse at all times. For instance, I always keep a protein bar and a water in my purse. The combination fills me up and keeps me going! After all, sometimes you just don’t have time, and this mom hack will get you by.

7. One Load a Day

Do one load of laundry every day to keep your laundry in check. Trust me, doing one load a day keeps everything manageable. If possible, if you can do one load in the morning, do it, or as soon as you get home from work. This mom hack helps take the guesswork out of “is this clean” and can help with the busy morning rush.

8. Reverse Jacket Car Seat

This is the ultimate mom hack for those who live in cold weather! If you are struggling to buckle your child into their car seat with a bulky jacket, strap them in without the coat and then put it on them backwards over the buckle. This keeps them warm without being uncomfortable.

9. Keep Track

One of the best inventions is these little tags. Pop one into your child’s backpack or jacket. These are super handy for big events. They even have these little arm bands you can wear. If your child is looking for more independence as they get older, these are a great reassurance for moms. It will give their live location, so you can track exactly where they are. It’s a little peace of mind.

10. Screenshot IDs

Okay, this one has saved me so many times. Create an album on your phone for IDs and important documents. There are seriously so many random times as a mom you need everyone’s documents and IDs. In the folder, have your IDs, your partner’s, and your kids. Things like a driver’s licence, birth certificate, social insurance number, and passport, etc. This album will save you! One of the best mom hacks ever.

11. Garbage Bag Laundry

When you’re traveling and on vacation, pack a garbage bag to put all your laundry in. This keeps your suitcases and new clothes fresh. Then, when you get home, take the garbage bag right to the laundry room.

12. Toy Rotation

To keep your kids engaged with their toys, put some into storage and only have a few out. When there are too many things out there, kids are less likely to engage with what they are seeing. Rotate the toys around every 1-2 weeks.

13. 10-Minute Nightly Reset

Doing the 10-minute reset and declutter is essential every night. If you do this, your house will be more organized and you will feel less chaotic stress. This is one of the best mom hacks to have your house looking presentable. Highly suggest popping in some headphones, listening to some music, or even a good podcast.

14. Snack Station

Create a snack station of healthy options your kids can easily grab. Whether it is a cupboard or a shelf in the fridge, set something up that they can easily access. Easy snacks for kids in the fridge could be apples, Babybel cheese, yogurt tubes, clementines, or even hummus cups with mini carrots. For the cupboard, you could do granola bars, fruit pouches, roasted chickpeas, Annie’s bunnies, or even some trail mix. This creates an opportunity for choice and independence for kids.

15. Outfit Layout

Let’s alleviate that morning rush of what everyone is wearing, including you! Pick out outfits as part of your bedtime routine. This way, you will not have to put any thought into getting dressed or getting the kids dressed in the morning. Also, you will know everything is clean and ready to go.

16. Fill Your Cup

Taking 10 minutes every day to do something for yourself can make a big impact. Instead of endless scrolling when kids are asleep, do something that impacts your overall well-being. It can be a simple walk around the block, reading something you love (If you are looking for something to read, I just finished this book, it was amazing), or having a hot cup of tea on your patio. Simple pleasures to keep your spark.

17. One In One Out

One big thing not talked about enough is the overwhelming clutter that can build up with kids. This can have a more profound impact on your mental health than you realize. Follow my decluttering tip of one in and one out! If a new toy or item comes home, time to donate something. This makes the volume of toys more manageable. If you have a hard time letting go of things, try selling them on the Facebook marketplace to incentivize yourself with a little money.
