This can leave moms feeling exhausted and burnt out. People will tell you to give yourself grace and lean on your village. But what are some actual motherhood tips that are helpful beyond just words of wisdom?

In this post, I will share 15 helpful motherhood tips that have made me a better mom. These are easy to implement into your everyday life. These tips will help you feel more grounded and live in the present moment. Let’s dive into the tips!

1. Fresh Air Every Day

Getting outside for some fresh air every single day is essential for moms. It is also one of my top tips if you are having a harder-than-usual day. Take the kids outside; it can be as simple as laying a blanket out on the lawn and breathing in the fresh outdoors. If the weather isn’t in your favor, bundle up in the right clothes and go for a walk.

2. Share the Mental Load

This is a challenging yet valuable one of the motherhood tips to master, but it can significantly enhance your experience as a mom. You need to communicate with your partner about which tasks are considered both parents’ responsibility and which are not.

Oftentimes, mothers are inundated with an unfair mental load. You are not your partner’s mother. They do not need to be micromanaged by you. You need to communicate what constitutes shared responsibility and what constitutes a dedicated responsibility to an individual.

This is an absolute game-changer for your mental well-being as a mother, but it requires daily attention.

3. Get Dressed Up Cute

One of the worst feelings as a mom is the frump. We all know the frump: leggings, messy bun, and an oversized, stained T-shirt (maybe a bra, maybe not).

I want you to try getting dressed up cute every day for a week. See how you feel about yourself by the end of the week.

Dressing up includes putting on clothes that fit, styling your hair, and following a makeup routine. You don’t need to be rocking a 7 am winged eyeliner, but maybe you want to! Whatever makes you feel put together. Do that!

4. Take a Breathe

Lean into whatever is going on in your day. Try to avoid multitasking and focus on the task at hand. If it’s playing with your child, your brain is getting distracted. Take a breath and remind yourself they are only this age once. These are precious moments, and whatever can wait. Breathe in and breathe out.

5. Weekly Special Treat

Who doesn’t love a little treat? Whether that is an actual sweet treat, adult activity, or pampering session. Try to carve out one time a week alone to do something for yourself. This is for self-care.

You can get your nails done, have a luxurious long bath, or go pick up some flowers for yourself. You can even walk to your local coffee spot (alone, lol) and grab a special drink and treat. Grab a table and take a few moments for yourself.

This is the time for you to reset and prioritize yourself for a moment. This is one of my favorite motherhood tips.

6. Affirming Words

Say something to yourself daily about what you enjoy about motherhood. Perhaps it’s a current phase your child is going through that’s cute or earnest. Maybe it’s something you feel you’re excelling at as a mom. Or it could be a quote you tell yourself daily.

A little positive note to yourself can go a long way.

7. Keep Yourself Hydrated

After a sleepless night, it’s tempting to drink coffee until your heart’s content, but try to remember the benefits of water for your system. It can support digestion, boost energy, and flush out toxins. Regular water drinking has many advantages.

Carrying around a support water bottle can make it that much easier to drink your water. I love this water bottle because it fits in cupholders and is leakproof.

8. Nightly Slideshow

Take a few minutes after your nightly routine is done to look at some photos of your kids. We do this almost every night at our house. My partner and I both show each other our favorites from our camera roll. It brings us so much joy at nighttime.

Tip: Heart your favorite photos of your kids in your photo library. This makes them easier to find, especially if you want to print hard copies later on.

9. Create a Morning Routine

One easy way to add structure to your day is by creating a morning routine. People crave routine to feel grounded; try implementing a morning routine. This can really help you organize yourself in motherhood.

10. Limit Your Screen Time

I understand that once the kids are in bed, it’s excellent to have some alone time. But really, think about how you are spending your time. Are you just doom-scrolling social media and making yourself feel bad?

If your phone is leaving you uninspired as a mom, consider exploring alternative screen time options. Screen activities that I recommend are the Kindle App for reading, Crosswords, and Pinterest for whimsical inspiration. These activities fill your cup.

11. Divide and Conquer Sleep

Figure out a system that works for your household to help you get a good night’s sleep. Whether that means rotating who wakes up the kids or heading to bed a little earlier, try to get your 8 hours of sleep every night, if possible.

12. Move Your Body

One way to feel great in motherhood is to take pride in yourself and your body. One way to feel great about your body is by moving it. I understand that, as moms, we often don’t have time to attend a Pilates class.

Find something that works for you, no matter how small. I have been doing one-mile nightly runs with a neighbor friend to stay active. It’s quick, we do it after the kids are asleep and the husbands are watching the monitors. We don’t go every night, but we try to make it every night. This is a quick exercise option and a great way to spend some social time.

13. Join a Community Class

Whether it’s swimming, music lessons, or soccer, enroll your child in an activity that gets them out into the community. It can be a great way to meet other parents with whom you can connect who have kids the same age as yours.

14. Romanticize Your Life

One of my top motherhood tips is to romanticize your life. Put on a beautiful playlist during dinner prep and light a yummy-smelling candle. Daily activities can be made lovely by shifting your mindset and creating a cozy space.

Perhaps dinner one night is enjoyed on a picnic blanket in the backyard or on the balcony. Maybe movie night is in a fort in your living room with a bunch of cozy blankets. These are the things your kids will remember.

15. Seek Out Information

Motherhood is full of surprises. They can be downright charming, but also challenging. When your child enters a new phase, pause and take some time to learn about it. Understanding the “why” behind something can significantly shift your mindset and increase your patience.

If you are breastfeeding, it is essential to drink plenty of water, so having one nearby is extremely helpful.

Advice For New Moms

These are five pieces of advice for new moms. It can feel overwhelming when you come home after birth. Please be gentle and kind to yourself. This is an entirely new experience, uniquely yours.

  1. Fed is best (breastmilk, formula, combination, whatever works for your family)
  2. Don’t worry about bouncing back, nourish and take care of yourself first
  3. Rest over chores in the beginning, ask for help
  4. You are doing your best, take a breath, get some fresh air
  5. There is no right way, and perfection is not the goal

Here are my top 7 tips for moms for self-care. They are easy to do with little time. Many of these tips can be incorporated into your nighttime routine before bed.

  1. Stretch out your body while playing with your kids.
  2. Open your windows to get some fresh air in the house.
  3. Once the kids are in bed, take a nice bath or shower.
  4. Take a moment to breathe deeply.
  5. Moisturize your body with a scented cream before bed.
  6. Have a herbal tea before bed (this is my fav).
  7. Listen to a podcast or audiobook.
