Morning Routine Ideas for Moms
Do you feel that, as soon as you wake up, your morning routine is rushed and chaotic? As a mom, I can relate fully, I see you, I am you. Between the diapers, dishes, and breakfast, the flow seems nonstop!
I decided to change up my morning routine to bring some joy and simplicity to my mornings. I created a list of morning routine ideas that are simple, relaxing, and start your day off on the right foot. No, you don’t need to get up at 5 am either.
These morning routine ideas are easy and set the tone for your entire day. Follow these ideas, make small changes to your habits, and watch as your life becomes easier and more enjoyable.
9 Easy Morning Routine Ideas to Help You Feel Great
Here are my 9 morning routine ideas to help you feel great as a mom. With a focus on self-care, nourishing the body and soul, and fostering family connection, these ideas will set you on the path to a fabulous day!
1. Wake Up Before the Household
Let’s be honest, being a parent isn’t always easy, especially when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep. One of the most tempting things to do is wait for your kids to wake you up in the morning.
For our first morning routine idea, let’s start somewhere simple. Waking up before the rest of your household. Here’s why: waking up in the morning before your household gives you some alone time. Having a few moments to yourself before the morning buzz begins is excellent self-care.
Highly recommend not checking your phone or social media of any kind. Things I personally love to do include reading a few pages on my Kindle, checking out some Pinterest inspiration, or watching a few minutes of a show (all activities are done with a hot cup of coffee + in bed!!). Whatever you do, do not DOOM SCROLL!
2. Fully Shower + Get Ready for the Day
Do you ever feel like you hope you don’t run into anyone that day because you don’t look great? This is my nightmare, and I swear the days you look your worst, you run into the last person you want to. That brings me to my next morning routine idea: shower and get ready.
Make time in your morning routine to clean your body, style your hair, and apply makeup. This is how you show up for yourself. It can be tempting to hit the snooze button, but get up and get showered.
You don’t need to do an everything shower and a smoky eye, but a little effort goes a long way. Also, having a shower wakes you up and gives you a literal fresh start to the day.
3. Dress Cute
Look good, feel good. My next item on the morning routine ideas list is dress cute! Dressing cute for the day can give you the boost of confidence you need to have a good day! You don’t need to buy new clothes; work with what you have. Make sure the clothes are clean and wrinkle-free. You can go easy and dress in monochromatic, like all black.
One secret styling tip I have to look more put together is to wear pearl earrings. Makes your teeth look whiter, and you’ll get more compliments – try it! They also go with every outfit and will make you look cute!
4. Nourish Your Body + Hydrate
Showing up for your family starts with taking care of your body. My next morning routine idea is to feed your body with what it needs. Fueling your body with nutrient-dense foods and staying hydrated with water helps you take on the day. Having a trusty water bottle you love and go-to breakfast ideas will set you up for success.
If you’re struggling with what to eat in the morning, here are a couple of quick ideas that I make a lot. They keep me full and satisfied. I usually do eggs, Greek yogurt, or oatmeal. I like to prioritize protein in my meals, as this helps keep me fuller for a longer period.
5. Play Some Music During Breakfast
If you’re feeling tired, add a little music to your breakfast time. This is a quick endorphin rush to boost your mood. Create a family playlist of songs everyone loves.
I recently bought this for my phone and it suctions my phone to different surfaces. I love attaching it to the microwave, cabinets, or tile backsplash to play music in my kitchen. Keeps my phone out of the cooking zone and away from the mess.
6. Get Fresh Air
Out of all the morning routine ideas, this one you need to try! One of the absolute best things you can do for yourself is get some fresh air in the AM. Whether that means walking your dog, sitting on your front patio with your coffee, or taking your kids into the backyard to play, get that fresh air into your lungs, breathe, and set your mind to crushing the day!
7. Give a Family Member Love
A considerable challenge for moms is finding time to connect with everyone they love. Set aside a few moments in the morning to show some love to a family member. Whether that is a nice long hug for your partner, a FaceTime to grandma, or letting your child know one thing you love about them, try this in the morning! It is one of the best additions to a morning routine.
Creating memorable moments daily is what life is truly all about.
8. Decide on a Dinner Idea
If you feel burnt out on figuring out what’s for dinner and no longer know what to type into Google, grab a cookbook.
Romanticize the process of making food for yourself and your family. Select your recipe during your morning routine, check for the necessary ingredients, and determine if you need to make any additional purchases from the store that day.
Having a plan for dinner alleviates later stress and actually allows you to enjoy your day without worrying about what’s for dinner.
My new current favorite cookbook is this one, The Wishbone Kitchen Cookbook
The Greek salad is fantastic, as is the whole chicken recipe- many perfect, fresh, and inspired meals for the family. This cookbook brings luxury to everyday eating. No need to order in, you’re making something even better!
9. Play with Your Kids
The morning is often a rush, especially when you’re trying to feed, clothe, and prepare backpacks for the day. Take some time the night before to prepare for the morning. Make the lunches and pack the backpacks, or reload the diaper bag. Then sit down with your kids to play for a few minutes in the morning. This is a perfect time to connect with them in their world before a busy day.
Whether it’s drawing a quick picture together, pushing them on the swings, or reading a story, it helps both you and your child find connection before the start of a full day. This togetherness, even though it’s only a few minutes, can mean a lot to your child.
Weekend Routine
Daily routines vary depending on whether it’s a weekend or a weekday for my family. On the weekend, there is a little more sleep and a bit more fun. I am all in favor of living every day like it’s Friday, but the weekday hustle creates less time for it.

My favorite morning routine ideas for the weekend involve cooking beautiful brunch food for my family, spending time in the garden, getting out into the community, or surrounding ourselves with nature. I also love getting a coffee absolutely anywhere!
